Government Way Spokane, WA 99224 (509) 838-8900 "Community Owned" CUTTER, Carolyn Joan (Age 59) Beloved wife, daughter, sis ter, aunt and dear friend, Carolyn passed away on 0c tober 21, 2009 at home in Spokane after a long and courageous fight against melanoma, which was first diagnosed in 1999.

Carolyn was born in Stockton, CA on September 26, 1950 and moved to Spokane in 1958. She graduated from North Central High School in 1968 as an honor student and a member of Red Feathers. During these years she was active in the Youth Group of Knox Presbyterian Church. She then attended Whitworth College, where she participated in drama and received her Bachelors Degree in English in 1972. She worked as a member of the Whitworth Library staff following graduation.

She then went on to an eight year career with New York Life Insurance Company in Spokane. Carolyn decided her true calling was teaching and spent the next year at Eastern Washington University completing her teaching certificate requirements. In 1985 she accepted an elementary school teaching position in San Antonio, TX, where she remained for four years. Carolyn left Texas to pursue a Masters degree in English as a Second Language at the School for International Training in Vermont. After one year she interrupted her studies to accept a one year teaching position in Taiwan.

During the following year she completed her Masters degree and headed back to Taiwan. After teaching one year in a high school for girls in Taipei, she spent seven years on the English faculty of Ming Chuan University in Taipei. In 1993, during a ferry trip to an island off of Taiwan, she met her future husband and love of her life Andrew Chang. After her marriage to Andrew in 1997 they moved to Kaohsiung where she taught at Kaohsiung Hospitality College as a full time teacher for seven years. Due to health concerns she cut back to part time teaching at another university.

She even taught English to the crew members aboard the ship. Her cancer returned and she came back to Spokane for medical treatment. Over the next 3 years she bravely fought the disease that ultimately took her life.

Carolyn's greatest joy in life came from her strong relationships with family, friends and God. She loved getting together with old friends as well as meeting new people. She was so good at keeping in touch with the many friends she made throughout her life. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
